The abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs is a problem that endangers the health and safety of individuals, families, and communities throughout Oregon.
Rural communities are not immune to the problem of substance abuse. In fact, rural communities are often more vulnerable than urban areas.
DC CAPS is a community coalition dedicated to preventing and reducing substance abuse in Douglas County.
Coalition partners represent key sectors of our community - youth, schools, business leaders, health care and treatment providers, agencies, organizations, law enforcement, and others - who are committed to creating and promoting a healthy Douglas County.
Since 2003 the DC CAPS Coalition has worked to:
- Increase awareness about local substance abuse issues
- Reduce illicit drug use by youth
- Empower youth to become prevention advocates
- Promote healthy, drug-free workplaces
- Advocate for sound public policies
- Encourage and support family involvement in drug prevention
- Build community partnerships
Bringing our communities together to work on effective prevention strategies is the only way we can successfully build a drug-free future for Douglas County.
